Steven Wu

Steven (Zhaohui) Wu, age 56, passed away at his home in Burnaby, Canada, on October 1, 2025. He is deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Maria (Meng) Tang; daughter, Mary Wu; sister, Cherry (Yan) Wu; and brother, Jian Wu.

Steven was born on December 8, 1968, in Beijing, China and spent his early years in Hebei before moving to Tianjin at the age of nine. In high school, he developed an interest in computers and then went on to study at Tianjin University, where he earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Computer Science.

While studying there, he met his future wife, Maria, and they married in 1994. In 1997, in search of new opportunities, they immigrated to Vancouver, Canada and in 1999, their daughter, Mary, was born.

Steven worked as a software developer in Vancouver for nearly three decades. In 2005, he joined Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, where he spent 20 years contributing his expertise, dedication, and quiet leadership. At the time of his passing, he was a Software Engineering Manager, respected and admired by his colleagues.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Steven will be remembered for his warmth, patience, and generosity. He loved being outdoors – Whether he was running, hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, biking, or paddleboarding, he embraced every season and every adventure. He also enjoyed playing weiqi (Go) and drinking tea—simple pleasures that reflected his thoughtful and grounded spirit.

Steven was a devoted husband and father, a caring brother, and a loyal friend. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, offer words of encouragement, or invite others to join in whatever new hobby or passion had captured his heart. His kindness, humour, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A funeral service will be held for Steven at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at Kearney Funeral Services (450 W 2nd Ave, Vancouver, BC V5Y 1E2). He will be buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Burnaby.
